Post Workout Meal: Yummy Vanilla Banana Protein Shake

I generally only like real bananas, not that fake banana flavor, but this shake is a good one! It tastes like those banana and peanut butter sandwiches my mom used to make when there was nothing else in the house! (Creative parenting, anyone?)

This shake is great for a post workout meal!  It has both carbohydrates from the banana, and protein from the protein powder and Greek yogurt.  The carbohydrates give your muscles fuel for more activity, and the protein helps to repair tissue damage caused by your workout (the good kind of damage!) The best window for your body to absorb protein and put it to good use is within 60 minutes after finishing all your grunting, sweating, and muscle motion!  Keep scrolling for the RECIPE!

I have seen the biggest increases in my strength and athletic performance when I have protein consistently after my workouts.  I used to never let myself have carbohydrates except on “Cheat Day”, and would find myself craving them, thinking about them constantly…all week. So now, I eat them throughout the day because my body was definitely asking for more!

Yummy Vanilla Banana Protein Shake:

  • 1 Cup Milk of your choice

  • Spoonful of Nut Butter of your choice

  • A dollop of plain or vanilla Greek yogurt

  • 1 Banana

  • a Dash of Cinnamon

Instructions: Toss everything in your blender (I love my Nutribullet!) If you’re feeling like a party animal, get some whipped cream on there and brag to your friends!

I’ve played around with my post workout meals for years, so I encourage you to do the same; try different combinations of food after you finish your activity and see what makes you feel best.  For more suggestions on meals you can try, check out my video:
